Off to camp
Daughter is off to riding camp today.
When school is out, and before vacation really kicks in for all in July, parents included, June offers a couple of weeks which are the kingdom of King Camp and Queen Activity. Swimming, orienteering, riding, playing, and generally staying outdoors 24/7. Kids from all over the country are set free in the wild. Daughter is off to one of these camps, petting kitties, riding horses, and enjoying life on a farm with other kids for a week.
We received a complete schedule with all activities neatly laid out, and one of them is hästkunskap, literally horse-knowledge. What they might learn there it’s a mystery to me now, but daughter has it all figured it out like a Gary Larson cartoon, with round-eyed horses sitting in armchairs with horse-newspapers and offering tea to the children.
Word of the day
Kunskap, [k’un:ska:p], meaning knowledge, as in sakkunskap, expert knowledge, which is kind of the exact contrary of ha grundliga kunskaper i ett ämne, to have basic knowledge of a subject. Wish I had that, in hästkunskap.
